Treat Stress Naturally with Homeopathic Medicine

May 10, 2013 by Dr Karen Hack

The Effects of Stress

Do you suffer from fatigue, insomnia, weight gain or loss, irritability, high blood pressure or anxiety? If so you may be experiencing the effects of stress.

Our daily responsibilities, such as work, family, friends, and finances can often be overwhelming and leave us feeling stressed.

On a physiological level the body reacts to stress as if it were under threat, constantly releasing hormones like cortisol and norepinephrine. When these hormones are released in excess or for an extended period of time, they can lead to heart disease, weight gain, depression, as well as a host of other symptoms and pathologies.

Signs of stress can show up in 4 different areas.

Physically: stress can lead to an increased heart rate, dry mouth, high blood pressure, muscle aches and pains and higher episodes of colds and flus.
Behavioural changes: may include an increased use of alcohol, tobacco or drugs, aggressive behaviour, nervousness, and changes in sleep.
Mentally: we may experience a lack of concentration, decreased memory, difficulty making decisions, confusion, and decreased libido.
Emotionally: we may experience increased irritability, get easily angered, high levels of anxiety and feelings of frustration and have higher levels of worry.

Your medical doctor will likely prescribe; antacids for your indigestion, anti-depressants for your mood, and anti-anxiety medication to aid in sleeping; all of which can be habit forming and may have uncomfortable side effects.

The Natural Treatment

Natural medicines, such as Bach flowers, tissue salts, and homeopathic remedies can be effective in diminishing even eliminating the effects of stress. They are also non habit-forming and don’t have permanent side effects.
Homeopathic remedies work best when prescribed by a certified Homeopath. Bach flowers and tissue salts are not as individual and can be used more generally.

Please note you should not discontinue any medication without the direct consent of the prescribing physician. Also, natural therapies, like Homeopathic remedies, tissue salts and Bach flowers, should be taken with the guidance of a certified practitioner.
