Treat Colds & Flus Naturally this Winter with Homeopathic Medicine!

February 13, 2013 by Dr Karen Hack

Winter is upon us and with that comes cold and flu season. There is no one reason why we catch the common cold or flu, but washing our hands thoroughly and frequently as well as having a strong immune system can decrease our chances and shorten the duration of our symptoms.

Making healthy food choices and getting enough sleep are essential to maintaining a strong immunity but more often, our immune systems are overburden by stress, eating on the go, and sleep that leaves us feeling unrefreshed.

With no cure in sight for the cold or the flu, many people turn to over-the-counter medications for symptom relief, but these merely suppress the body’s natural mechanisms for expelling illness. The next time you get sick, try homeopathic medicine. A properly selected homeopathic remedy will catalyze your body’s natural ability to heal, expel the illness, and return your body to a state of health.

The following are some remedies to consider:

Arsenicum 30ch: Influenza with gastroenteritis, vomiting and diarrhea. Face is hot, the body is chilled, yet these patients crave open air and feel thirsty for small sips of water. Mentally, their illness makes them feel very anxious and they become very restless.

Bryonia 30ch: Slowly progressing influenza accompanied by severe aching. These patients feel very warm, they are very thirsty, and tend to gulp their beverages. These patients feel worse from the slightest movement and especially with jarring motion. Mentally they are very irritable, averse to answering, and want to be left alone.

Gelsemium 30ch:
If you feel DULL, DROWSY, and DIZZY consider Gelsemium, especially if the influenza comes on slowly. These patients feel sleepy and weak, as if their limbs were too heavy to lift. They may have chills alternating with flushes of heat, yellow coating on the tongue, and may be low spirited, dull, and lethargic.

Eupatorium 30ch:
Influenza with high fever, and severe, unbearable, aching pain, especially in the bones. Symptoms include high fever, chills, sensitivity to cold air and little perspiration. There is a desire for cold drinks despite being cold, and a desire for cold food and ice cream.

As you can see by the above examples, homeopathy is a highly individualized form of medicine. This means that two people with the same diagnosis but slightly different symptoms, will be prescribed two different remedies to best address their personal concerns. If you are interested in homeopathy, it is best to come in for a visit so I can find the remedy most suited to your needs.
